An exciting end of the week, Vale la Pena

It was a very exciting weekend. The last session of the week went very well. We started with a game called "Red Ball, Blue Ball." During this game we passed imaginary balls around a circle. It was an exercise in multitasking and communication. After, during the next activity, we had a discussion about good leaders and bad leaders, and also we talked about two types of leaders: a “power wielder” and a “benevolent dictator.” The students surprised me with their insightful thoughts. They had a lot to say and they spoke very well. The last activity was called “Back to Back” an activity with people who were sitting back to back and (without using their hands) they had to stand up together. It was an exciting teamwork activity. After, we congratulated everyone for a successful first half of the program.

After the session, Leti brought us to a Chinese Restaurant. The food was very yummy but I was a little disappointed that there weren’t any Chinese people working there. At night, we went to Marimba Park again with four facilitators from Casa Telmex. They taught us a little about marimba, we danced, and a good time was had by all.

This weekend was an adventure. We went to Palenque and we visited the Mayan Ruins and two different waterfalls: Misol-Ha and Aqua Azul (Blue Water). The Ruins were beautiful and we climbed many of the old structures. It took a lot of energy but it was well worth the effort. The waterfalls were also quite breathtaking in their own right. Taylor and Lauren went in the water but we didn’t swim because we didn’t bring towels.

Today, we were quite tired so for the majority of the day we simply relaxed. But before dinner, we met two other MIT students that were staying in the Fiesta Inn, so we went with them to the Happy Chicken. We chatted with them and after we returned to the hotel. It was an exhausting weekend but it was a lot of fun and it was totally worth it.
